UPDF Major Arrested for Leading Violent Attack

Police in Gulu on Monday arrested a former UPDF Major for instigating a violent attack in Amuru district.

The suspect is Rtd Major Ferdinand Otim, who allegedly spearheaded a retaliatory attack on the Pali-pali clan in Atiak sub-county in Amuru district.

Police say Otim, a resident of Palukere East Village, on 15th December 2018, mobilized his clan members to attack Pali-pali clan following the death of his brother.

About 50 huts were burnt in the violent attack in Atiak sub-county.

Major Otim was arrested when he turned up for the on-going recruitment of veterans for a mission in Somalia.

Police spokesperson for Aswa region Jimmy Patrick Okema says Major Otim has been transferred to Amuru Central Police station for questioning.

Another twelve people who were involved in the attack are currently on remand.

Chimp Reports understand that a case of threatening Violence under SD REF 09/18/2019 has been registered by Atiak LC3 Mr. Wilfred Odiya Baguma against the suspect.

Meanwhile, Police in Aswa has also confirmed the arrest of a Woman identified as Judith Aromo, for embezzling 9 million shillings meant for Ribe ber Women group.

The suspect was reportedly given money to support the group under NUSAF3 Project, but she allegedly used 7 million shillings to construct her own house, and gave 2 million shillings as a loan at 15%.

Police say she will be charged with embezzlement
