UPDF Denies Alleged Misappropriation of Soldiers’ Food, Allowances

The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has dismissed media reports alleging that food and allowances for soldiers has been misappropriated.

The UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire dismissed the allegations saying that no senior UPDF leader misappropriated soldiers’ food and allowances as reported by some news websites.

The Defense mouthpiece also clarified that no investigation is underway as alleged.

“We refute information alleging misappropriation of soldiers’ food and allowances during this period of COVID-19 enforcement,” said Karemire.

He added, “no senior UPDF leader has even received such report as alleged and therefore there is no investigations taking place at all.”

It is reported that during this period of COVID-19, soldiers who don’t normally get operation food have also been given to limit their movements and those of their families outside the barracks with the aim of limiting risks of contacting COVID-19.

The UPDF, with the help of LDUs, Uganda Prisons Services and other security forces distributed relief food supplied by Government to the vulnerable poor.
