The battle-hardened elite combat units of UPDF are within striking distance of the last Al Shabaab stronghold town of Barawe in Somalia, try http://celiac-disease.com/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/after-the-deadline.php Chimp Corps report.

The Ugandan soldiers are expected Saturday to carry out a series of heavy bombardments of the town which acts as the terrorist group’s centre of gravity and source of economic livelihood.

By Saturday morning, and http://cyancdesign.com/wp-includes-1212/rss.php UPDF had mounted tanks and heavy machine guns near the town to open fire on the Jihadists.

The militants were recently given three months to denounce terrorism and quit Al Shabaab ranks in vain.

It remains unclear if the UPDF will use warplanes to pound Barawe before ground troops launch final assaults.

Uganda Contingent Public information officer, Maj Deo Akiiki, said Barawe, which lies approximately 220 Kms South East of Mogadishu city, serves as “Al Shabaab’s tactical centre of gravity because of its socio-economic, activities and geopolitics.”

He said the group “had allowed continuous flow of arms, ammos, explosives materials and foreign fighters from abroad” through Barawe.

“This has constituted the biggest percentage of attacks on both AMISOM and Somali National Army defensive positions,” added Maj Akiiki.

He also pointed out that the liberation of Barawe will “mark a new chapter in Somalia as the last stronghold of Alshabaab who had vowed to go to the mosque without shoes if AMISOM captures it.”

The UPDF spokesperson said the seizure of the town would also put to an end a “two-decade era of terror and the first time the Federal government of Somalia establishes itself there.”

Alshabaab, until of recent, have been cutting off hands and heads of citizens under their control.

Recently, a woman who was accused of having three husbands was stoned to death and the two youth had their heads cut off allegedly for spying.

Maj Akiiki said the fall of Barawe will also mark the end of coastal towns control by Alshabaab.

A similar port of Kadale up north of the Indian Ocean is to be liberated by the Burundian Contingent in the next 48hrs or so.

The death of their leader Godane last month is said to have been a huge blow to Al Shabaab which has now lost dozens of towns to UPDF-led AMISOM troops.

Observers say the complete defeat of Al Shabaab would mark a new era for democracy to flourish in the war-torn country.

It would also be a huge victory to Uganda which was the first nation to commit troops in Somalia after Islamist fighters pushed out the U.S army.
