Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party leaders led by President Jimmy Akena and Spokesperson Michael Orachi Osinde this morning attended a requiem mass of their fellow senior party leader Sospater Akwenyu at Up Hill College Mbuya in Nakawa Division.
Akwenyu, who passed away on Thursday this week at the age of 74, was a candidate in the 2010 UPC Presidential elections.
At the funeral service, President Jimmy Akena said party members across the country were in shock over Sospater’s death.
He hailed the deceased for always being available for reconciliation whenever there was any disagreement within the party.
Akena also said the deceased’s dream was not just being president of the party but securing a better future for Uganda.
“Much of this shock stems from the fact that as all political parties, we have had ups and downs but whenever there has been any disagreement within the party, Sospater was always available for reconciliation. He was always for reconciliation and he was always looking for ways that would build the party,” said Akena
Akena assured the family that he together with the top UPC leadership will travel to Kaberamaido for burial.
UPC contributed condolences worth 1.4 million shillings and pledged more financial support to the family.
Akwenyu’s body will be laid to rest tomorrow Sunday in Kalaki constituency, Kaberamaido district.
