Uganda National Roads Authority Executive Director Alen Kagina has sacked all her 890 employees in an unprecedented restructuring move.
Kagina told press on Tuesday afternoon that the Authority would ask every one of the worker to tender in fresh applications for their positions.
The move she says is aimed at enhancing efficiently and sieving out the corrupt and inactive workers.
Mrs Kagina accused a big section of her employees of not doing their work. She says most of the work is being handled by hired consultants, visit web which is not cost effective.
During the Press Conference, stomach Mrs Kagina announced that the UNRA would soon embark on fresh recruitment of 1736 new employees to cope with the amount of work the authority is handling. The ones released today she said would be given first priority.
“Our current staffs are not able to handle the burden of looking after the 210000km of road that UNRA is overseeing,” she justified the move.
The development comes only three months after Mrs Kagina upon appointment at the helm if the roads authority, commenced her work by firing 80 senior managers.
