Uganda National Roads of Authority (UNRA) in an effort to enhance tourism in the Jinja area, has set aside seven days to light up the newly launched Source of the Nile Bridge.
The nightly illumination, which starts today, Thursday, is hoped to provide an opportunity for visitors to shoot breathtaking and memorable pictures of the bridge at night.
UNRA publicist Allan Ssempebwa says the Authority is also working on a programed for illumination on selected special days to celebrate along with the nation.
The bridge which was commissioned by President Yoweri Museveni last week, is equipped with several dozen LED bulbs at the base of the cables which can be programed to provide various color patterns for a given event.
Members of the public have been advised by the Authority to use the available designated safe areas such as the Michino Eki (resting places) provided at either side of the bridge to take pictures and videos of the iconic bridge.
“Taking pictures along the carriageway/on the bridge does not only obstruct traffic but may also lead to accidents due to the high design speed along the bridge ( 80Km/hr)” Mr Ssempebwa warned.
