The government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Health, has today announced dates for the distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in Kampala and Wakiso areas.
The massive campaign, ‘Under the Net’ is intended to have over 27 million nets distributed.
Ministry of Health officials said that their teams will visit people’s households on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 January 2021 to register all beneficiaries.
“Distribution of mosquito nets will take place on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 January 2021,” the health ministry announced.
The permanent secretary, Dr Diana Atwine has urged people to register with their Village Health Team members and local leaders.
“Kampala and Wakiso, it is your turn to receive mosquito nets. Register with our teams when they come to you .Malaria is a danger because it kills,” she said.
The ‘Under the net campaign’ was launched in June 2020, divided into 6 waves aimed at distributing treated mosquito nets to all districts in the various regions of the country to mitigate the transmission of malaria among masses.
Reports from the various malaria prevention agencies and departments indicate that inpatient malaria deaths have reduced from 20 per 100,000 in 2016/2017 to 9.38 per 100,000 in 2017/2018 due to the distribution of mosquito nets.
