The Ministry of Health through the ‘Under the net’ campaign has commenced distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) in Moyo and Adjumani districts in the ongoing wave four of the exercise.
This fourth wave of net distribution is projected to cover a total of 30 districts while the remaining districts will be handled in the two remaining waves, five and six.
The launch of the net distribution in Moyo district was officiated at by Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the State Minister for Primary Health Care, Ministry of health.
“Over 65,000 nets are set to be distributed with the assistance of Village Health Teams. I call upon the public to ensure a clean environment around their homes too, as we strategize to eliminate malaria out of the country,” she said.
She cautioned that mosquitoes are likely to increase due to the outbreak of floods in the Western Region. The most hit area, Kasese, has recently had flooding, after rivers Nyamwamba and Mubuku burst their banks yet again.
“Although there was a significant decline in the number of malaria cases in financial year 2018/19, there was a surge in 2019/20 due to heavy rains,” she added.
