Ultimate and Muyenga Blitz were the big winners for the second edition of the end Polio game ride.
The event, organised by Rotary Club was held at the Kololo Ceremonial grounds in Kampala on Sunday.
Ultimate team won the professional category – finishing the 30 KM race in time of 56.59. The side went home with Sh1M.
Muyenga scooped Sh1M and a return ticket from RwandAir after winning the 10KM.
“We basically held this event to raise awareness about the aspect of polio and ensuring that everyone joins forces to see that children around the world are immunised and therefore don’t contract the polio virus,” said Francis Xavier Ssentamu, Rotary District governor.
Over 30 teams took part in the competition with other individual winners from various categories also awarded.
Rotary partnered with Ultimate cycling who were the technical key advisors, RwandAir that provided the two return air tickets.
“The purpose is to raise funds to continue with immusing children across the country. Cycling helps people to be health and more productive.”
The event brought together Rotarians and the cycling world.
It should be noted that World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Ministry of Health recently confirmed that there is no vaccine-derived polio outbreak in Uganda contrary to earlier reports by the UN reporter.
