UHRC, Government Bodies to Share Data on Rights Violation Victims

The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with other government bodies to strengthen their relationship in collection, dissemination and analysis of data for victims facing   human rights violation

The bodies which signed this agreement included Office of the Prime Minster (OPM), National Planning Authority (NPA) and Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS)

At the signing ceremony held at Hotel Africana Kampala, Medi Kaggwa the commission chairperson said this coordination will help proper monitoring of rights violation related cases.

“With data you get to know the specific number of victims because you can’t do anything without proper statistics. Data can’t lie or exaggerate” Kaggwa said.

Joseph Muvawala, the Executive Director National Planning Authority said this MOU will strengthen cooperation of data analysis in various government agencies as well as ensuring consistency with both regional and International Human rights standards.

Hon Taka Magret, the woman MP Bugiri District who us on the Parliamentary committee of human rights appreciated this move and pointed out that once matters of human rights are addressed everything will be solved.

“Let me ask individuals to put aside all their misunderstandings and work together for transformation to make Uganda better”
