Uganda’s Beecham Okwere to Lead EAC Initiative for Peaceful Uganda Polls

High Court in Kampala has Wednesday morning directed telecom companies MTN Uganda and Airtel to produce the key information on phone conversations of missing Amama Mbabazi aide Christopher Aine.

Aine who went missing in mid December last year has been rumored dead. According to relatives the presidential candidate was picked up by security officers and talked to an unknown destination. Police denies knowledge of his whereabouts.

The High Court Judge Lydia Mugabe said the order was purposes of helping pinpoint the whereabouts of Mr Aine.

Mbabazi lawyers of Muwema and Company Advocates are pushing for Uganda Police to produce the body of the missing person in court.

David Bechaam Okwere has been identified by the East African Community to lead mobilization of stakeholders for the Pre-election assessment exercise by the EAC Team.

Okwere will be in charge of mobilizing stakeholders for the consultation by the EAC Pre-election assessment team in the seven regions of Uganda.

He will also analyze data collected and access the level of awareness of the electorate in Uganda.

In line with the EAC Principles of Election Observation and Evaluation, the election observer mission will be a combination of a Pre–Election Assessment Team and a short term election observation mission.

According to Eriyo, the EAC will deploy a pre-assessment mission for 25 days before the general elections.

The team will be charged with reviewing the political environment, the human rights environment, gender dynamics and inclusiveness of the process, as well as the legal framework within which the elections are being held.

The resultant report will constitute back ground information that will inform the short term election observer mission when they get on ground on February 9, 2016.
