Ugandan athletes are in Aarhus, Denmark ready for the 2019 IAAF World Cross Country Championships that will take centre stage on Saturday.
Today’s event is the 43rd edition taking over from the previous chapter that was held in Kampala in 2017.
This year, Uganda took 27 athletes an increased record from the previous events. Though they will compete for Women Juniors (6km), Women Senior (10km), Men Junior (8km) and the Mixed Relays (2km each/1lap), all eyes will be on the men’s senior event where the on form duo of Joshua Chepetegei and teenager Jacob Kiplimo will be tussling it out.
Thomas Ayeko, Joel Ayeko. Maxwell Kortex Rotich and Albert Chemutai are also competiting in the same category.
“The team is in good shape, we have had good preparations and the morale in camp is high. We are grateful to the federation, NCS and government for the support and promise to carry the flag high,” Team manager Francis Demayi believes the preparations that the team went through is enough to register success.
