Ugandans living in Turkey were startled this week by the gruesome murder of one of their own, who was shot dead in what is believed to be gang related violence.
Uganda-Turkey Community President, Ronald Kajubi, identified the deceased only as Umar, who was shot severally in the head and the other parts of the body.
Kajubi says the circumstances under which Umar was shot are still unclear, and made a call for the Ugandan community to start contributing resources for the body to be returned home.
Chimpreports learnt independently that Umar was believed to have been killed by Turkish drug lords along Kumpkapi Street at around 4:00am on Monday.
“Umar had lived in Turkey for five years,” one of the Ugandans in Turkey who didn’t want to be publicized told us.
“He has been disguising as a beggar on the streets on Istanbul but he was selling drugs undercover. He must have misused his bosses’ money and upset them.”
Umar’s body is currently at a government mortuary in Istanbul and awaiting clearance documents from Uganda’s ambassador to have it repatriated.
A sum of about Shs12Million is needed to have the body repatriated and efforts to raise it are underway.
