Ugandan defender moves to Armenia after long stint in Portugal

Ugandan left-back-cum-winger Alex Kakuba has joined Armenian top division club FC Lori Vanadzor, the club has confirmed.

The defender has been unveiled at the club and could feature for the team in their premier league match against Ararat on Sunday 31st March.

“We are glad to inform Lori FC signed a contract with Ugandan full-back Alex Kakuba. Alex, 27, played in Portugal Premier League’s Estoril and Feirense. First half of the season 2018/19 Kakuba played in Greece Super League’s PAS Giannina,” the club announced on their official portal.


Kakuba started his football journey at Proline FC in 2010 before moving to Portuguese lower-tier side Esperança Lagos two years later.

He crossed over to second division side Sporting Covilha in January 2013 and lasted for two seasons. He later joined Estoril Praia in the Primeira Liga in June 2014 on a two-year contract and then moved to Feirense on a loan deal in his last six month.

At the end of the loan deal, the two clubs agreed to a permanent move for the player where he stayed two years at his new home in Feirense.

From there, ion July 2nd last year, Kakuba moved to Greece and joined top club PAS Giannina where he stayed until the beginning of this year.
