The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has come out to enlighten the public on the unclear information surrounding Uganda’s real tourism ambassador.
UTB’s senior public relations officer, Sandra Natukunda cleared the air on the issue during a press conference held at Sheraton hotel on Thursday in honor of Abenakyo’s Miss World Africa victory.
“There is a difference between a good will ambassador and an appointed ambassador. Zari is a goodwill ambassador while Abenakyo is appointed,” Natukunda stated.
She went on to explain that the boss lady approached the minister on her own requesting him to let her use her platforms to market Uganda’s tourism hence becoming a good will ambassador.
The confusion started after the board announced current Miss Uganda Quinn Abenakyo as the ambassador yet weeks prior to that, State Minister for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda had been in a meeting with socialite Zari Hassan resulting in her being announced as the ambassador.
Ugandans since then have been in a state of uncertainty wondering where Abenakyo’s new position left the mother of 5.
“We believe everyone out there doing something is an ambassador of our country but still we go ahead to appoint one who is outstanding, like Abenakyo,” Natukunda elaborated.
She added, “Abenakyo represented us exceedingly at a global level that is why we appointed her as our ambassador. However, even Zari is still our tourism ambassador.”
UTB pledged to assist Abenakyo in all her projects and have a lined up program for the beauty queen during her time as the tourism ambassador.
