Uganda To Host Regional Chess Tourney

Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura has Friday carried out another police shuffle affecting four top positions in the national Police.

In these, health the infamous SSP Sam Omala better known as Afande Omala has been transferred to from Kampala to the greater Busoga region.

According to a communiqué by the Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, advice Omala will now be serving as the Deputy Commander Bukedea Sector.

Here in Kampala Metropolitan where he was serving as Field Force Unit Operations Commander, sick he is being replaced by Superintendent of Police (SP) Agero Rashid.

Afande Omala became greatly famous during the opposition spearheaded walk to work protests and had evolved to become a darling to most Kampalans for his comic operations and television appearances.

In other transfers, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kaali Fadhil was appointed as Commander of the Special Field Force Regiment (SFFR), and is to be deputized by Superintendent of Police (SP) Ojandu AD Robert, the Ag. Deputy Commander SFFR.

Enanga said the transfers that are normal and regular, would take immediate effect, and are also based on service exigencies and competence.



The Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) in partnership with City Oil has launched the 2015 Zone 4.2 Individual chess championships. The main competition will begin on Saturday 18th April and run up to 25th April 2015. The events were originally scheduled to be held at the Sojovalo hotel but will now be hosted at the City Oil, visit this site Kira Rd main hall.

“We thank City Tyres who have provided the venue, order fully equipped with amenities required for a conducive international FIDE rated tourney of this magnitude,” president of UCF Mr. Vianney Luggya said in the launch. He also hinted that the sponsors have availed six trophies for the top three winners in both categories.

There are seven countries participating in the championships. Egypt is the only country providing participants outside east African belt that includes Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda the host. Other countries in the zone that failed to turn up are Sychelles, Somalia and Sudan.

The winner of the eight day tourney will represent the zone at the FIDE 2015 World Chess cup to be held in Baku, Azerbeijan from 10th September to 4th October 2015. The event will comprise an open section and a women’s section.  The winner in the open section will be awarded International Master (IM) title while the winner in the women’s section will be awarded the Woman International Master (WIM) title. Other titles will be awarded in accordance with FIDE title requirements.


Time control will be 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. Draw offers are not allowed before completion Black’s move.
