Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Uganda as the hosts of the 2020 Africa Cup of Nations Beach Soccer Championship.
The development was confirmed on Friday during the CAF executive committee meeting in Accra, Ghana.
It should be noted that FUFA President Moses Magogo is a CAF executive member and also heads the Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee.
Earlier this year, Magogo made the intention to host the biennial tournament clear indicating Uganda will bid to host.
” Despite the facts that we lack facilities, as FUFA we have the intention to host the beach soccer tournament, ” he said earlier.
The FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha believes this is a step forward for the game of beach soccer in Uganda.
‘Our efforts in developing the game in Uganda are reaping fruits. It has been a great journey for beach soccer in this country. We have led on all fronts in the region in developing the game. We thank CAF for giving us this opportunity. We shall not disappoint’ said Mugisha as quoted by FUFA website.
The 2020 beach soccer tournament will be the fourth edition. This year’s edition will be hosted by Egypt.
