Minister State of Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs Hon Okello Oryem has asked Algeria to cooperate with Uganda in the Oil and Gas Sector.
He said that since Uganda has recently discovered oil and Algeria has been producing oil for some time now, it is important both countries to cooperate for the benefit of their people.
The minister made the appeal during the luncheon hosted by the Ministry in honour of H.E. Abderrahmane Ben Mokhatar, the outgoing Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda.
Ambassador Abderrahmane Ben Mokhatar will be leaving Uganda after his successful completion of his tour of duty.
Minister Oryem paid tribute to the Ambassador for the role he has played in the overall level of bilateral relationship between Uganda and Algeria.
He also thanked the government of Algeria for the scholarships that have been extended to the Ugandan students to study in Algeria in areas such as medicine, pilule architecture, computer science, agriculture, ICT and vocational training.
The minister reiterated Uganda’s commitment to continue working with the government of Algeria in addressing issues of mutual concern both at continental and international levels.
Hon. Okello Oryem wished H.E Abderrahmane Ben Mokhatar a safe journey back home, best wishes in his next assignment and he reiterated MOFA’s readiness to work with his successor to promote further cordial bilateral relations between two countries.
On his part, H.E Abderrahmane Ben Mokhatar thanked Hon Okello Oryem and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for support and help that was extended to him which developed a special and warm friendship. He said that his best success was in training and scholarships where over 500 Ugandan students are studying in Algeria.
He requested that Uganda should consider opening up a mission in Algeria to help and extend diplomatic and consular services to Ugandans living in Algeria.
