Uganda Cranes and Tanzania’s Taifa Stars have a possibility of meeting each other in the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF, the continental governing body, released the seedings on Thursday afternoon ahead of the much-awaited draws set to be conducted on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
Uganda was seeded in pot 3 due to her current Fifa rankings where they hold position 79 and 14th in Africa.
The Confederation said that the procedure of using the rankings was the most suitable and acceptable
“The pots and seedings of the 24 qualified teams were decided based on the latest FIFA World rankings (released 4 April 2019), which is
globally accepted and portrays a true reflection of the state of the qualified teams,” Caf explained.
Other countries in Pot 3, that cannot meet Uganda in groups include; South Africa, Benin, Mauritania, Madagascar and Kenya.
Tanzania, Uganda’s opponent in the qualifiers, has been placed in the last Pot (4) with fellow East African counterparts Burundi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Guinea Bissau and Angola.
