Uganda Registers 16 New COVID-19 Infections as Cases Rise to 1,313

The Ministry of Health has on Tuesday confirmed 16 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda bringing the cumulative total number of infections in the country to 1,313.

The new cases were confirmed from the 2,250 samples tested for COVID-19 on Monday.

Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Ministry of Health Director General Health Services said in a statement that of the 16 new infections, 12 are alerts, 1 truck driver, 1 returnee and 2 contacts to previously confirmed cases.

The truck driver who tested positive for COVID-19 arrived from South Sudan via Elegu point of entry while the returnee came from Kenya and was under quarantine at the time of test.

“Regarding 12 alerts, 8 are from Namisindwa, 3 are from Tororo and 1 from Kampala metropolitan area,” said Dr. Mwebesa.

The 2 contacts to previously confirmed cases are from Adjumani district.

Ever since Uganda began testing for COVID-19, a cumulative total of 301,286 samples have been tested.

Currently, Uganda has a cumulative total of 1,313 COVID-19 confirmed cases and 9 fatalities.
