Uganda Reacts to Kayihura, Tumukunde Exit

President Yoweri Museveni on this chilly Sunday evening dropped a bombshell, and many Ugandans don’t know yet what to do with it.

Without a warning, the president fired the Inspector General of Police Gen. Edward Kale Kayihura and Security Minister Gen Henry Tumukunde, two bush-war generals that have had misunderstandings spanning over a decade.

The President in a shocking move replaced Gen Kayihura with his Deputy AIGP Okoth Ochola and Minister Tumukunde with former army commander Gen Elly Tumwiine.

Social media went in flames when the President through his twitter handle announced the development. The tweet got hundreds of retweets within minutes as reactions started pouring in.

Many of the of social media commentators were elated by the news and rushed to pile praises on the President.


Some were more thralled by the method employed by the president to rid the two generals


Others were empathetic with the especially General Kayihura who, besides his perceived political bias, has been hailed for transforming the Uganda Police Force in the last dozen years he was in charge.

Several of the commentators were however inclined to the comedy and irony of it

A few congratulatory tweets also came in for the replacements
