The Uganda U21 National Netball Team has been handed a direct qualification to participate in the forthcoming INF Netball World Youth Cup tournament in Fiji.
This follows the cancellation of all qualification games in Africa, America, Europe, and Oceania that were scheduled for October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to award the Ugandan Youth Netball Team a ticket for the international event was agreed upon during an International Netball Federation Video conference held on Saturday.
Following the zoom meeting, INF decided to grant qualification basing on the International Netball Federation World Rankings in the Four regions.
“The Netball World Youth Cup 2021 qualifiers due to be held in October this year have been cancelled and the INF board decided to use World rankings to determine qualification for Africa, America, Europe, and Oceania regions,” read the statement released by the International Netball Federation.
South Africa, Uganda and Malawi which are the three top ranked teams in Africa will therefore represent the continent in the international Championship.
The INF Netball World Youth Cup is slated for 10th – 19th June 2021 and will be hosted at the Vodafone Arena in Viti Levu Island, the capital of Suva province, Fiji.
This will be Uganda’s second appearance in the tournament following their maiden participation two years ago in Gabrone, Botswana.
