The Ministry of Trade, Industry is organizing the 2nd Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) Expo scheduled for 7th -10th of March 2019 at the Kololo independence ground
The three-day Expo is intended to showcase and promote Ugandan products as well as give an opportunity for producers to receive training, expert advice, exposure to regulators, and network with bigger producers and business people.
Speaking today at the Uganda Media Center, the Trade Minister Amelia Kyambadde said Ugandan products are increasingly gaining visibility on the local market since the BUBU policy was put in place 2 years back, hence the need for this expo to further promote Uganda’s own goods.
“Ugandans products are currently enjoying 40% shelf space in the Ugandan supermarkets. Ugandan goods like honey, sugar, detergents, cosmetics, food stuffs are increasingly being visible. I urge Ugandans to continue supporting our own products because its patriotic,” the minister said.
She further noted that if the BUBU campaign becomes successful, the Unemployment problem will be history in Uganda
The deputy ED Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), Patricia Esalu urged Ugandan producers to focus on improving quality if the BUBU campaign is to be more effective
” For BUBU to succeed, Ugandan producers must meet standards. UNBS is willing to support them in product certification” she said.
In the course of the three days, there will be a national women’s conference, an award dinner to recognize BUBU complaint Government institutions and local producers among others.
