Onduparaka FC 1-1 KCCA FC
Betway Greenlight Stadium
The game between Onduparaka FC and KCCA FC lived to the billing with either side putting up a thrilling encounter.
Dubbed the MTN derby because the two sides are are sponsored by the giant telecommunication company, the hype and anticipation was equalled with the action on pitch.
Onduparaka FC managed to stage a fight back in the second half to salvage a point in a one all goal draw with KCCA FC in the game played at Betway Greenlight Stadium in Arua.
Viane Ssekajugo’s 70th minute goal cancelled out Mohamed Shaban’s earlier opener as both teams settled for a point.
“It’s a game we had to win given our second half performance,” started Onduparaka FC coach Simeone Masaba shortly after the game.
“KCCA FC is a big team, well organised but we gave them a huge run for their money, so I should say that a draw is not a bad result.”
The draw is a blow for the ‘Kasasiro boys’ who, before the game, needed victory to keep in the title push.
KCCA FC now slip to third with 45 points, following Vipers’ win in Masaka but have a game in hand.
The point sees Onduparaka FC displace Kirinya Jinja SS in fourth as the Catterpillars have collected 38 points from 24 games.
Shaban, who was making his first return at Greenlight Stadium since joining KCCA, had a bright start.
The striker came close to scoring in the first five minutes, twice, but later, his hardwork was paid off in the 7th minute when he lobbed a ball past onrushing Nicholas Ssebwato to silence the home crowd.
The striker did not celebrate upon scoring with the stadium going dead silent for a moment.
Onduparaka’s first chance of the day fell to Viane Ssekajugo but Lukwago came out of his line to force a corner.
Ssekajugo and Gadaffi Gadinho would later force Lukwago into double saves before referee Rajab Bakasambe sent the teams back for mandatory break.
Onduparaka FC came back determined and the better side. Ezra Bida and Rashid Toha had efforts on target but Lukwago once again stood tall on both occassions to keep out the catterpillars.
Bida, at the hour mark, failed to capitalise on Lukwago’s blunder when the shotstopper failed to punch away an aerial delivery, for the attacker’s effort to go out.
Finally, matters were settled; Viane had his low shot from close range hit the post before finding it’s way into the back of the net for the equaliser.
Mutebi brought on Isaac Kirabira,Jackson Nunda and Paul Mucureezi but the hosts continued to attack in high numbers.
Okhuti could have gotten the winner for the Arua-based club when he ran free on goal but the former KCCA FC player stumbled in his ran for Lukwago to save the day.
