The scenes after the game could tell it all as KCCA FC players looked on crestfallen after the goalless draw against Maroons FC in Luzira on Thursday.
Despite creating a couple of goal scoring chances KCCA FC failed to find the target and the game ended in a barren draw a result which played in SC Villa ‘s favor.
KCCA FC dominated proceedings in the opening quarter of the game in search for an early lead but failed in their pursuit.
The first chance of the game came in the 6th minute with Allan Okello finding Paul Mucureezi on the right flank but his ground cross was cleared by defender Richard Ayiko.
Eleven minutes later Patrick Kaddu who was facing his former employers almost headed home from Mustafa Kiiza’s teasing cross but was unlucky not find the target.
KCCA FC kept surging forward. Okello, Poloto and Kaddu had attempts at goal but all went wide and the opening 45 minutes ended goalless.
Upon resumption, Maroons FC came back a much better side and could have taken the lead hadn’t Solomon Walusimbi been wasteful on the day.
With three minutes to the hour mark, Walusimbi received a well laid pass from Pius Obuya who had replaced Ronald Kikonyogo but the striker fired wide with only goalkeeper Charles Lukwago to beat.
Moments later, William Kibi got two glorious chances to break the deadlock but failed on both attempts including an attempted lobe over Lukwago that went just inches wide.
Substitute Solomon Okwalinga had a thunderous attempt about 40 yards from goal but shot stopper Ashadu was in the right place to thwart danger.
Despite throwing more bodies upfront including introducing Mohammad Shanan, Maroons FC remained resilient resilient to pick a point.
KCCA FC almost snatched it at the death off Okello’s ferocious effort but Bugembe parried away the strike before making a reflex to save Shaban’s volley.
The result leaves KCCA FC in second position on 44 points, five behind leaders SC Villa but with a game in hand. On the other hand Maroons FC remain 6th on the log with 33 points.
