Uganda Loses Pioneer Geoscientist, Godfrey Andama

Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has mourned the death of its board member Godfrey Andama who passed on at Nakasero hospital on Sunday.

“He served with passion, diligence, and dedication,” said UNOC in a statement.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his family amid this difficult time.”

The deceased, who had served on UNOC’s board since 2015, boasted 17 years of experience in collecting sub-surface geo-engineering information on the foundation conditions beneath structures for storage dams, weir, outlet portal, and investigation of construction materials.

He worked for several international Consultant Companies, such SWECO, NORPLAN, carrying out geo-technical exploration studies for Karuma Hydroelectric Power Project (HEPP), Bujagali Hydroelectric Power Project (HEPP) and other smaller dam sites that are coming on stream in Uganda and Rwanda.

His area of expertise was in hydrogeology, petroleum exploration and production, as well as Geo-Engineering.

Andama had an MSc. in Petroleum Geoscience from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim Norway (1995).

He started his career as Petroleum Geologist with the Petroleum Exploration Promotion Project in 1992 and was one of the pioneer Geoscientists that worked in the Albertine Graben to promote the region for exploration.


He will be laid to rest of April 21, 2020 in Ocoko, close to Arua.
