The Uganda Law society (ULS) a body bringing together all legal practitioners in the country this week has finally released the dates on which they will hold their council elections.
The earlier date of 4th April 2020 was affected by Covid 19 lockdown which led to tough restrictions on movements and public gatherings yet the elections fell under the same category.
According to a statement released by George Omunyakol , Chairperson Elections committe at ULS the new election is 12th September 2020 starting from 9am upto 3pm at High court premises in Kampala.
Omunyakol revealed that the Acting chief justice (Deputy Chief justice) granted them permission to conduct scientfic elections and this was confirmed by the Principal Judge.
“The list of the High court circuit premises and High court division premises that will be used as as pilling station shall be circulated to the members in the due course.”
The outgoing President Simon Peter Kinobe after expiry of his term didn’t express is not contesting again.
One of the contestants Anthony Wameli stepped down and channeled his support to one of the contenders.
Other candidates include Pheona Wall the out going Vice President of ULS, Anne Karungi, Semambo Rashid, Nelson Walusimbi and Bernard Oundo.
Other elective positions will include Vice President, Treasure, Secretary and four members of the council.
