Ugandan Journalists to this morning rose up to the sad news that one of their own; Rebecca Vassie had breathed her last in Fort Portal.
The British photojournalist has been working in Uganda for three years as a correspondent for the Associated Press, the Daily Monitor and other agencies around the region as well as the Red Cross.
Details of her untimely demise were still scanty, but according to the Foreign Correspondents Association of Uganda, Vassie succumbed to an allergy reaction.
Close friends also intimated that her allergies reacted harshly after she ate groundnuts.
“The Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda regrets to announce the death of one of its members, British photojournalist Rebecca Vassie. Rebecca died early Tuesday morning following a severe allergic reaction,” announced the association publicist Grace Natabaalo on Tuesday.
“Words have failed me on this. Be strong in whatever way you can, brethren. Sudden and truly saddening news,” grieved one of the journalists Taabu Butagira.
Rebecca had also been elected recently as the association’s training coordinator.
