Uganda Film Festival Returns; Over 100 Movies Nominated

The country’s biggest event in the film industry is only days away, with bigger expectations and more participation projected this time round.

At least 100 films in various categories have been nominated for awards, according to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) who organize the annual event.

Ahead of the awards ceremony, all nominated movies in the various categories will be showing at different cinemas in Kampala.

The UCC has also organized a Film exhibition at the Muganzilwaza building in Katwe, as well as film trainings all through the week

UCC in a statement said the best movies will be judged among others on their script, pace, setups, form and structure.

Some of the nominated included Bella, 94 Terror, Veronica’s Wish, The Agreement and Slay Queens which are up for the Best Feature Film and Viewer’s Choice Awards

In the Best Post Production and Editing category, the nominees are Bella, Veronica’s Wish, The forbidden, Kikumi Kikumi and Chains.

In the Cinematography category, the nominees are, Slay Queens, 94 Terror, Veronica’s Wish, Bella and Forbidden


The nominees for Best Feature Film are; Slay Queens, The Agreement, 94 Terror, Veronica’s Wish and Bella.

Films nominated for Best Director considering continuity and visualisation, creativity and relevance to target audience include; Veronica’s Wish (Rehema Nanfuka), Bella (Matt Bish), 94 Terror (Richard Mulindwa), Kikumi Kikumi (Ssekitoleko Isaac) & Slay Queens (Benelexus Namukoye)

Three films were submitted to contest for the Best Animation and two were nominated; that is,   Chebet and Finding the Ball.
