CECAFA U17 AFCON Qualifiers
Uganda 3-1 Ethiopia
Uganda emerged champions of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations(CECAFA) U17 Africa Cup of Regional qualifiers after defeating Ethiopia on Sunday.
In the final played on Sunday at National stadium in Dar es Salaam, the Uganda Cubs won the game 3-1.
Idd AbdulWahid struck a brace while defender Samson Kasozi netted the other to guide Uganda to victory. Ethiopia got their consolation in stoppage time through Wakjira Mintesnot.
Defender Kasozi fired Uganda into an early lead scoring in the 15th minute off a well taken corner by KCCA FC youngster Ibrahim Juma.
This gave Uganda a perfect start before Abdulwahid doubled the lead in the second half. The pacy forward who features for Onduparaka made a solo effort to fire home a minute after the hour mark.
He later got his second on the day and Uganda’s third off a well laid pass by Ivan Asaba.
Ethiopia who had defeated Uganda 1-0 in the group stage got their consolation through Mintesnot who converted from the spot after defender Kasozi held the ball inside the box.
Tanzania who were the hosts finished third after edging past Rwanda in the third place playoff.
Uganda will now represent the region at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Tanzania.
