SC Villa 4-1 Lugazi Municipal F
Sports Club Villa booked a berth into the next phase of the Uganda Cup after sailing to a comfortable win against Lugazi Municipal FC on Friday at Mandela National stadium.
The Jogoos did not find trouble in dispatching the Buganda regional side winning 4-0.
Bashir Mutanda, Ashraf Mandela, David Owori and Joseph Ssemujju scored a goal each to guide the blues to victory.
Steven Okot scored the consolation for the visitors.
Villa were dominant from the start and Mutanda opened the scores in the 33rd minute tapping home from Habib Kavuma’s cross.
Six minutes later, David Owori doubled the lead with a ferocious ground shot.
Derrick Ndahiro ignited the attack on the left flank with his cut back finding Mutanda at the edge of the box. The latter set up Owori whose strike went into the bottom left corner.
At the stock of halftime, Mandela stretched Villa’s lead capitalizing on a defence lapse by Lugazi who left him unmarked on the far post and did no mistake to slot home from Ndahiro’s cross.
Second half substitute Ssemujju who replaced Mutanda put the game to bend moments after coming on, heading home from Ndahiro’s corner.
Okot pulled back the consolation for Lugazi Municipal thanks to Gerrard Ogwet’s lay off.
The result means SC Villa advance to the round of 32.
Mbarara City FC edged Maroons FC 4-3 on spot kicks after normal time of the game played at Kakyeka stadium ended goalless.
