Betway Kobs dreams of completing the treble were sent down the drain after succumbing to a defeat to Buzz Pirates.

After winning the league and the rugby 7s, this Kobs were chasing for three titles in one year but the dreams were shuttered after falling to Pirates.

In the semifinal game of the Uganda Cup played at the Legends rugby grounds on Saturday, Pirates defeated Kobs 27-22 to reach the finals.

Keith Seruyange put the league champions ahead with the first try of the game before a conversion to take a 07-00 lead before Conrad Wanyama scored two penalties to draw the game to 07-06. By halftime, the Buzz Pirates were leading 19-10.

After interval, Brian Asaba had a try for Kobs and Ramathan Govulle added another for Kobs to regain the lead at 22-19.


However Buzz Pirates who had matched the league champions for most of the game, got another try through Wanyama before Ian Magomu put the icing on the cake with a drop goal for Pirates to win 27-22.

In the second semifinal played, defending champions Hima Cement Heathens defeated Toyota Buffaloes to reach the finals.

Pirates and Heathens will play in the finals on Saturday next week at the same venue while Kobs will play Buffaloes a day before to determine who takes the third place.
