Uganda Cup: Kobs into Semifinals as Heathens Ease Past Warriors

Betway Kobs quest for a treble this year continued as they edged out Shell Rimula Rhinos to reach the semifinals of the 2016 Uganda cup in a game played at Legends rugby ground on Saturday.

The league reigning champions Kobs  defeated Rhinos 29-16 to book a berth into the last four.

Kobs attacked right from onset taking an early lead with 19 points before Rhinos put up a try and conversion to bring the score to 19-6 at halftime.

After interval, online Kobs added more two tries with Keith Ssenyange putting the icing on the sugar with the final try for the game to end 28-16. The other tries came from skipper Oscar Kalyango, pills James Ijongat and Michael Amolo.

Toyota Buffaloes needed extra time to overcome a resilient Sadolin Mongers in the other semifinal played at Kyadondo Rugby ground. Robert Masendi drop goal at the death ensured the game went into extra time with 25 points apiece but Solomon Okias’ try separated the two sides for Buffaloes to win 30-25.

However,the game between defending champions Hima Cement Heathens and Mutoni Warriors didn’t take place after Warrior’s player Zedo was stopped from playing with the Uganda Rugby Union claiming he was still serving a ban.

According to reports, Warriors coach Gabriel Aredo was presented with a notice stopping Zeno to play but he tore the paper to pieces and the players also protested the decision to exclude their teammate thus refusing to play.

Heathens were however given a walkover and they will play Toyota Buffaloes in the semifinals next week.

Black Pirates also defeated Impis 21-03 to reach the semifinals where they will play Betway Kobs that will be played next weekend.
