Uganda Cup: Kayiwa Late Winner Spurs Express FC Past Water

Ibrahim Kayiwa scored a stoppage time winner as Express FC edged Water FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 game played at Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

The Red Eagles won 2-1 to advance to the round of 16.

Tonny Odur scored the opener at the stoke of halftime but an own goal by John Revita drew the game level midway through the second half.

Despite dominating proceedings in the opening stages of the game, Express FC failed to find the much desired early goal.

Odur had two goals disallowed inside the opening 15 minutes with centre referee Ali Kaddu calling for offside.

He however broke the deadlock at the stoke of halftime converting from the spot after goalkeeper Aggrey Kiligolo punched him in the face.


Water FC levelled matters in the 50th minute with defender Revita scoring into his own goal.

Kefa Kisala brought on Kayiwa in the 54th minute replacing Lawrence Kigonya Pantaleo. Later on, he brought youngster Billy Nkata for Mubarak Nsubuga.

With two minutes into the three minutes of added time, Kayiwa headed home from Michael Birungi’s cross to help the Red Eagles advance to the next stage.
