Uganda Cubs enhanced their chances of qualifying to the 2019 Under-17 World Cup after beating hosts Tanzania 3-0 in an entertaining match on Wednesday in Dar Es Salaam.
Vipers Sports Club Junior Team trio Andrew Kawooya, Ivan Asaba and Yiga Nagib grabbed the goals for the team.
Kawooya clipped in a pass from Rogers Mugisha’s who had done some quality work on the right flank.
Asaba then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with a well taken shot from inside the box after some good exchanges.
Tanzania threatened much in the second half but the Ugandan defence led by Gavin Kizito stood high.
Yiga Najib sealed the win for the Cubs with only 20 minutes to play when he beat his markers to brush in from a corner kick.
The win lifts Uganda to third place with three points, same as Angola who beat them in the first game but lost to Nigeria in the earlier match on Wednesday.
The Nigerians have all but sealed their place to the semi-finals and earned the first slot to the Fifa Under-17 World Cup.
Uganda will return to action on Saturday to play the Nigerians in the decider.
