Uganda Cranes Outsmart Micho’s Zambia Side

• Uganda Cranes 2-0 Zambia

Uganda Cranes overcame Milutin “Micho” Sredjovic’s coached side (Zambia) 2-0 in their second game of the pre-CHAN Tournament at Annex 1-Omnisports complex in Yaounde on Monday.

The Cranes drew first blood in the game when forward Vianne Sekajugo tapped in a loose ball from Zambian goalkeeper Charles Kalumba who had spilled Ibrahim Orit’s cross in his path after 24 minutes.

The Chipolopolo later conceded bizarre own goal from goalie Kalumba who after being dribbled by dazzling forward Steven Mukwala tried to recover but instead kicked the ball in his own net doubling Uganda’s lead.

Vipers’ forward Shaban Muhammad would have stretched the Cranes’ lead to three but his close range header off right back Ashiraf Mandela’s delivery went a few inches past the post.

Zambia missed a clear cut chance for a consolation in the first stanza when Emmanuel Chabula’s shot rattled the woodwork before Collins Sikombe’s efforts went over the cross bar.

Uganda, now on four points from two games, will return to action in the final pre-CHAN game against Niger on Thursday 7th January. The Cranes drew 1-1 with tournament hosts Cameroon in the opening game.

Uganda was placed in group C of the CHAN tournament alongside Rwanda, Togo and defending champions Morocco.
