KAMPALA: Uganda earned $1.88 billion from coffee exports in the first 10 months of the 2024/25 coffee year, sharply higher than $1.03 billion in the same period a year earlier, helped by strong harvests and robust global demand, the Ministry of Agriculture said in its latest report.
“For the coffee year to date (October 2024 – July 2025), Uganda exported 6.55 million bags worth US$ 1.88 billion compared to 4.98 million bags worth US$ 1.03 billion in the same period the previous year,” the ministry said .
July shipments alone reached 997,105 60-kg bags worth $250.6 million, up 21% in volume and 19% in value from a year earlier. Robusta exports rose 18% to 914,448 bags, while Arabica jumped 68% to 82,657 bags.
“Robusta increased by 18.40% and 11.40% in quantity and value respectively, while Arabica exports increased by 68.18% and 140.87% in quantity and value respectively,” the report noted .
However, prices weakened.
“The average export price was US$ 4.19 per kilogram, US cents 57 lower than in June 2025 (US$ 4.76), and US cents 8 lower than in July 2024 (US$ 4.27),” the ministry said .
Italy was the top destination, taking 31% of shipments, followed by Sudan, Germany, Algeria and Belgium.
Exports to African markets rose to 24% of total volumes from 16% in June.
On a 12-month rolling basis to July, Uganda shipped 7.93 million bags worth $2.25 billion, compared with 6.88 million bags valued at $1.41 billion the year before.
The ministry projected exports of about 700,000 bags in August as the main harvest winds down, noting that “farmers and traders are still having stocks that were withheld as they waited for improvement in the coffee prices”
