Uganda Martyrs University 1-1 Kyambogo University
Kyambogo University and holders Uganda Martyrs University played out to a one all draw in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the 2018 University Football League.
The game played at Uganda Martyrs University main branch in Nkozi Masaka seemed like it was headed for a barren stalemate until a late surge from the two teams.
With either side playing a cautious game, both teams failed to find the cutting edge until the 83rd minute.
Tavin Kyeyune broke the deadlock seven minutes to time to send the home fans into wild celebrations.
The goal seemed like it would be the difference between the two sides. However, deep into stoppage time, the visitors levelled matters.
Emmanuel Mwesigwa scored the equaliser in the third minute of added time to help Kyambogo University salvage a point.
The game was the final game in the first leg of quarterfinals clashes with each game registering at least a goal.
In the first game played on Tuesday, Issac Ogwang’s lone strike guided St. Lawrence University past YMCA while Bugema were 1-0 winners against new comers and surprise package IUIU.
On Thursday, two time winners Kampala University obliterated Uganda Christian University 3-0 at Mandela National Stadium.
The return legs are scheduled for next week with the winners on aggregate advancing to the semifinals.
