Kampala University 1-1 Makerere University
Kampala University have advanced to this year’s finals in the University Football League after ejecting Makerere University on away goals rule.
The 2013 winners marched to the finals after a one all draw in the return leg played at the Luzira prisons ground on Wednesday.
The first leg had ended in a goalless stalemate with Makerere hosting the first leg. Kampala University took an early lead in the 9th minute with Abdu Walusimbi breaking the deadlock.
Walusimbi made a solitary run beating Makerere defender Bwogi Edgar to slot on the far right end of the goal beyond Daudi Mioni’s reach.
Makerere then stepped in search for the leveller and enjoyed most of the possession while Kampala University opted to go defensive.
Defender Abubaker Kisawuzi made a timely interception clearing off a ball from Mugema Julius when he was left only with a keeper to beat in the 24th minute.
Pressure from the visitors paid off a minute after the half hour mark when Mugema tapped from close range to level matters.
A high ball from Nsubuga Hamudani was headed by lanky forward Joshua Lubwama before meeting an unmarked Mugema to fire home.
The second half produced no spark as both teams failed to find the cutting edge in the final third despite attacks from either side.
Makerere pilled pressure for the second goal in the final ten minutes but Kampala University remained resilient resorting to delaying tactics.
