Uganda Christian University (UCU) basketball teams have been flagged off on Wednesday morning at the university main campus in Mukono as they headed for the Zone V basketball championship slated to start this weekend in Dar es salaam, check http://comerydivertirse.com/wp-includes/class-wp-customize-widgets.php Tanzania.
The team comprising of the men’s side (UCU Canons) and the women’s team (UCU lady Canons) were flagged off by the deputy vice chancellor, online http://christlutheran.org/wp-includes/feed-rss.php Mr. David Mugawe.
Mugawe while flagging the team off emphasized discipline as a factor that will help the team succeed.
“Much as you are going as basketball players, http://clinicapetterson.com.br/wp-includes/nav-menu.php bear in mind that you are carrying our flag as UCU. So in everything you do, make sure God and discipline are at the forefront and that will help you succeed,” said Mugawe.
The UCU lady Canons captain Vilma Achieng thanked the university management for the support and promised to come back home with the trophy.
“I thank the University administration for always supporting us in every aspect. As a team we feel we are ready to compete, we have prepared enough and God willing, we shall come back victorious,” she said.
UCU Canons who were runners up in the National Basketball League will along defending champions City Oilers represent Uganda as the men’s teams while the lady canons who are the reigning champions in the women’s division will together with KCCA leopards represent Uganda in the women’s zone V championship.
This is the second time that the Canons will be playing at the tournament since their maiden appearance in 2010 when they failed to progress out of the group.
The Lady canons on the other side will be playing for the fourth time, previously playing at the championship in 2010, 2013 and 2014 in Mombasa where they finished fourth.
The championship that will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania will run between 1st October to 7th October 2016 with several clubs from Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia among others confirming participation.
