The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) and Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) have partnered in a collaboration to jointly market tourism destinations in Uganda and improve Uganda’s brand as a film and tourism sphere.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday by Eng Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo, the Ag. Executive Director UCC and Ms Lilly Ajarova, the Chief Executive Officer at the UTB.
Ajarova said that there is hope that this combined effort will boast tourism and the film industry of Uganda.
“It’s our hope that with such partnerships, we shall see an increase in film-induced tourism,” she commented.
This, she said, will be achieved through film and multi-media content creation among others.
Some of the issues discussed involved; improving connectivity and cost of internet, supporting the digital marketing of the destinations, profiling the film locations, content creation and management for the promotion among others.
The production of local content has increased from 30% in 2018 to 50% by 2019 according to UCC.
A recent report released by UCC indicates that “During the last six years, more than 106 films have been submitted to international film festivals while 2,135 have been submitted through the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) arrangement.
The partnership has occurred only a month away to the World Tourism Day.
