UCC Suspends Spark TV’s ‘Kona Ne Miles Rwamiti’ Program

Uganda Communications Commission has suspended Spark TV’s ‘Koona Ne Miles Rwamiti’ show following an incident where the Rubaga South MP and Comedian Kato Lubwama beat up Music promoter Andrew Musoke during a live TV show.

Kato Lubwama was angered after Bajjo claimed he couldn’t speak English and couldn’t debate on behalf of the people in his constituency on the floor of parliament.

According to a statement issued by the Uganda media regulatory body, the program that was aired on Friday December 21 and hosted by Miles Rwamiti aired content that was contrary to the minimum broadcasting standards.

UCC contends that section 31 and paragraph (a) (ii) and (iv) of the Fourth Schedule of the Uganda Communication Act 2013, prohibits broadcasters from broadcasting any content that directly or indirectly promotes hatred or a culture of violence and likely to incite or glorify violent behavior.

Spark TV has now been ordered to report to UCC what exactly happened on the fateful day, suspend the airing of the program together with its presenter Miles Rwamiti and producer.
