UCC Sets Date For Uganda Film Festival 7th Edition


A few months after signing an agreement with Hollywood in a bid to showcase Ugandan content at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, Uganda Communications Commission has unveiled dates for the forthcoming Uganda Film Festival 7th Edition due 25th-29th November, 2019.

Established in 2013, the Uganda Film Festival has prioritized its objectives of promoting the local film industry both locally and internationally, and to bring all the industry stakeholders together in a more focused and structured environment.
This, yet 7th edition themed “Film and Tourism In The Pearl Of Africa” will feature activities like screening of Film, Movies, TV Series and Drama which will be showing during the 5 days event. Training workshops and forums, Film Exhibition Markets and Uganda Film Festival Awards (as the epitome of the festival) are some of the major activities to take part in.

In this edition, films will fall under various genres including;
Feature Films; Films work with a length of 60 minutes and above based on imagination and not necessarily fact.
Short Films; The film works with a running time of 59 minutes or less, including the credits and based on imagination and not necessarily fact.
Documentary; Film works that are based on factual events or facts about a person(s) or place(s).
Television Drama/Series; A television drama/series is a show presented dramatically and explores a range of genres from comedy, soap opera, science-fiction to costume drama and usually engages with issues of the day in an accessible fashion that an audience can connect.
Animation; This genre will house all film works consisting of a series of Drawing, puppets; both computer and non-computer generated, to give the illusion of movement when projected in rapid sequence.

Film makers, companies and associates will be competing for awards under numerous award categories such as;
Best Costume Design (This includes creating an organized flair and appearance for characters in the productions that contributes to the fullness of the artistic, visual world which is unique to a particular film or cinematic production),Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Screen Play, Best Student Film(This includes works in the categories of short, feature, documentaries, animation, and TV series done by undergraduate students as part of their coursework or projects), Best Feature Film, Best actor and actress(of course) which award will be given to the outstanding male(s), female(s) actors in the Feature Film category and so many others.
