UAE Steps Up Drive Against Drugs, Narcotics Smugglers

The government of Uganda through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised all Ugandans travelling to or through Dubai that the government of Dubai has with immediate effect introduced new measures to curb drugs and narcotics entering into the United Arab Emirates.

According to Kasujja Moses Kalule Kagodo the Ag. Head Public Diplomacy Department, “The following items must be declared by any passenger to the Dubai Customs Officials upon arrival and non-declaration may be treated as smuggling and an offence which is punishable by the laws of United Arab Emirates.”

The items are; Narcotics of any kinds, trees, plant sand soils, fireworks and explosives, and medicines of all kinds even if for personal use.

Other items include: Weapons, ammunitions, and military equipment, gifts of commercial value exceeding AED3,000.00 films, books, photographs, visual and compact discs even if for personal use and cash money (inclusive of all currencies and travel cheques) above AED100,000.

He added that domestic pets and skins of endangered animals subject to cites convention, radios, striking appliances, self-defense equipment and sharp edged knives and swords will not be allowed as well.

The Ministry also advises all travelers to strictly observe the above measures in order not to be inconvenienced while in UAE.
