U17 CAF Zonal Qualifiers
Uganda 3-1 Kenya
Uganda Cubs picked its second win at the ongoing U17 CAF Zonal qualifiers in Tanzania.
The Cubs defeated neighbors Kenya 3-1 in the group B game played on Sunday at Chamanzi stadium.
Najib Yiga, Juma Ibrahim and Ivan Asaba were all on target for the Cubs while Ezekiel Nyakundi scored the consolation goal for Kenya.
Coming from a 6-1 pummeling of South Sudan, Uganda was the better side despite Kenya showing resilience in the opening stages of the game.
Yiga broke the deadlock at the stoke of halftime(45+1) to give the Cubs the lead.
Midway through the second half, Ezekiel Nyakundi equalised but this was short lived as Uganda regained their lead through versatile player Ibrahim Juma who converted from the spot.
Juma had missed a penalty in Uganda’s loss to Ethiopia but he was once again entrusted with the responsibility and he was perfect this time.
Asaba put the game beyond reach with six minutes to play hence helping Uganda to a comfortable win.
The result means Uganda is second in group B on six points, three behind leaders Ethiopian who won 4-1 against Djibouti on Sunday.
The Cubs will return to action on Wednesday against Djibouti in the final group game.
The two teams from group A and B will advance to the semifinals. The eventual winner of the tournament will qualify for the CAF U17 final tournament that will be hosted by Tanzania.
