Police is investigating circusmstances under which two of their men were attacked and killed in Kawempe, a division in Kampala, on Thursday night.
The deceased police constables at the time of publishing this story had only been identified as Habyara and Otim.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson LuKe Owoyesigire, “the officers were on foot patrol when they were attacked by unknown assailants.”
Owoyesigyire said that assailants could have used the police officers’ guns to kill them as they (killers) fled with the guns.
The bodies of the deceased officers have been taken to Mulago Hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations take route.
This is the second attack in which police officers have been killed by armed robbers in Kawempe division.
Last year, armed thugs shot dead two officers and took their guns.
Following a series of other events of police officers being killed on duty, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura ordered police officers to always move in groups to avoid such attacks.
“If you find any armed police officer moving alone, arrest them. Officers aren’t supposed to move alone,” Gen Kayihura said.
