Two people lost their lives on Tuesday evening when a wall collapsed on a coffee shop in Kampala’s Namirembe suburb.
Albert Nkabahita and Stella Jalobo were having coffee at the Kaije Coffee, Fruits, Restaurant and Lodge cottage during the heavy downpour last evening when nearby wall collapsed on the shop and instantly killing the duo.
Red Cross relief team immediately rushed to the scene to find two bodies that were retrieved and handed over to police.
The Uganda Red Cross Society Public Relations Officer, Irene Nakasiita confirmed the development to ChimpReports on Tuesday evening.
“We have managed to dress the dead bodies in body bags and handed them over to police. They have been taken to city mortuary,” said Ms. Nakasiita.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango reiterated the same saying rain made the wall to become weak hence its collapse.
“The duo was having coffee at Kaije Coffee, Fruits, Resturant and Lodge, when a wall adjacent to the cottages/Coffee shop collapsed on them. The wall became weak due to heavy rain and collapsed,” said Onyango.
He stressed that the guest house did not collapse but the neighboring wall fell on it.
