Police in Kampala on Wednesday detained two men, who were allegedly found printing T Shirts with messages welcoming Kyaddondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi back into the country,
The MP, better known as Bobi Wine is expected at Entebbe Airport tomorrow Thursday, having spent nearly three weeks in the United States receiving medical treatment and mobilizing support against President Yoweri Museveni.
Police identified the two men as Mzee Collin Spaya and Joseph Katumba, and said these will be charged in courts of law.
The two were printing T shirts which were ordered by a customer named Aidah Nakuya, a political activist.
Ms Kakuya told us the men’s work station was cordoned off by Police officers this morning, and that they were arrested and taken to Kampala Central Police Station along with the T Shirts.
The activist questioned the police motive, while speaking to us on phone.
“The whole country is preparing to welcome Bobi Wine into the country. I printed my t-shirts like any other citizen to distribute to my people Kasangati, Gayaza and Magere to welcome their MP. How is that illegal?”
Nakuya said she was also called to make a statement at CPS, but she hadn’t responded.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Luke Owoyesigire, confirmed the arrest to the two men.
He told this website that they would be charged with “Seditious Intention to Bring Hatred or Contempt to the Public, or Government” which is contrary to Section 39 of the Penal Code Act.
Bobi Speaks Out
Meanwhile, MP Kyagulanyi who departed from Washington this morning, condemned the Police’s decision to bar his relatives from picking him at the Airport.
Police, in addition to this, announced earlier today that the MP would not be allowed to hold any procession from the airport.
The police spokesperson Emilian Kayima told press that Bobi would instead be driven by the Police to his home.
“Am wondering why these police officers allow themselves to descend so low? They now want to decide who picks me and where I go upon arrival?” Bobi Wine tweeted.
“Well, for your information, no single family member will receive me at the airport, I will find them home coz I know where home is”
“I will be received by friends, colleague leaders & artistes. I will then go and see my sick grandmother briefly at Najjanankumbi from where I will head to Kamwokya for lunch with my family (brothers & sisters) before I go to my home in Magere”Follow @chimpreports
