Traffic Police Boss Suspended for Arrresting NRM Diaspora Spokesman

The Uganda Police Force on Wednesday suspended the Kiira Road Police Station Officer in Charge of Traffic, approved Stephen Sande for allegedly arresting and detaining the National Resistance Movement Diaspora official.

The Police Standards Unit (PSU) last week launched investigations into the arrest and detention of NRM Diaspora League Interim Spokesman, price Moses Kimuli following an opinion he sent from London was published on the government owned newspaper, help the New Vision.

Mr. Kimuli was arrested and detained on 2nd February 2017 at Kiira Road Police Station and charged for attempting to steal confiscated luggage at the police station.

According to his story in the New Vision, he was trying to help a bodaboda cyclist recover his property that was impounded by the police a day before from Mawanda Road.

According to a source at the police headquarters, Naguru, the Kiira Road Traffic boss was found to have acted irregularly since the charge sheet was later changed to traffic offence.

“Afande Sande has been suspended for mishandling the NRM guy. He mismanaged the matter,” the police source said.

When contacted on phone, the PSU Commandant Fortunate Habyara confirmed the development but declined to comment and referred us to the Police Public Relations Officer.

“Yes, the investigation is going on into the matter but I am not the person to tell you anything. The person you are supposed to talk to is our PRO,” Mr. Habyara said.

Efforts to reach the police PRO, Felix Kaweesi were futile as he didn’t pick our repeated phone calls.
