Traditional Healers Face Tough Sanctions

The President of traditional healer’s association Mr Jimmy Patrick Mudugu, unhealthy has warned traditional healers in Uganda to cease engaging in heinous and criminal activities in the execution of their duties.

Mr Mudungu expressed concern yesterday that traditional healers in Uganda were going to such extremities of exhuming dead bodies.

Other cases of grave digging, ed extortion and murder he said were rampant in the country and that this continued to create animosity between the public and traditional healers.

Mr Mundugu said this during the thanksgiving ceremony, organized by the Salongo Mutyaba a traditional healer in Kiteza village Kawolo Sub County Buikwe district.

He noted that the association would initiate a countrywide campaign to verify, and revoke licenses of some of the healers who will be arrested practicing illegal acts like in possession of Human skulls, bones, child sacrifice, among others.

“We are launching this campaign soon and we shall without hesitation revoke those fake healers practicing illegal things like those we find in possession of skulls.   We are asking residents to cooperate with us,” Mundugu said

The move comes only a day after neighboring Tanzania officially banned witchdoctors to try and stem a surge in murders of albinos, whose body parts are sold for witchcraft, officials said Wednesday.

The DPC Buikwe district Kellen Namara, asked the association president to team up with police and screen the shoddy healers.

“ I request you  to work with police in all district. We are willing to help you screen your people because there is a lot of evils going on in your sector ,Ms Namara said.
